    Gaming news by DeathofU

Looks like another showing is not pulling its weight. Comdex lost its buzz and now E3 is next. Gaming companies want to go their own way and feel they are not getting the return on their money at E3. It could be no more and that is hard to believe. I feel that the show will keep going like Comdex did but smaller then shrink to nothing.

    WII Specs

Broadway is Wii's CPU. Broadway functionality and specifications are as follows.

    • Operating speed: 729 MHz
    • Bus to main memory: 243 MHz, 64 bits (maximum bandwidth: 1.9 gigabytes/sec)
    • 32-kilobyte 8-way set-associative L1 instruction cache
    • 32-kilobyte 8-way set-associative L1 data cache (can set up 16-kilobyte data scratch pad)
    • Superscalar microprocessor with six execution units (floating-point unit, branching unit, system regis
ter unit, load/store unit, two integer units)
    • DMA unit (15-entry DMA request queue) used by 16-kilobyte data scratch pad
    • Write-gather buffer for writing graphics command lists to the graphics chip
    • Onboard 256-kilobyte 2-way set-associative L2 integrated cache
    • Two, 32-bit integer units (IU)
    • One floating point unit (FPU) (supports single precision (32-bit) and double precision (64-bit))
    • The FPU supports paired single floating point (FP/PS)
    • The FPU supports paired single multiply add (ps_madd). Most FP/PS instructions can be issued in
each cycle and completed in three cycles.
    • Fixed-point to floating-point conversion can be performed at the same time as FPU register load and
store, with no loss in performance.
    • The branch unit supports static branch prediction and dynamic branch prediction.
    • When an instruction is stalled on data, the next instruction can be issued and executed. All instructions
maintain program logic and will complete in the correct program order.
    • Supports three L2 cache fetch modes: 32-Byte, 64-Byte, and 128-Byte.
    • Supports these bus pipeline depth levels: level 2, level 3, and level 4.

    Retro Review: Red Faction

    Hello fellow parkers,

I bought this game when it first came out 5+ years ago but just got to it right now! I enjoyed the story of the game. This game I believe was one of the first games to have destructive elements in the engine. What was really funny to me is how they have a demo of a glass house that you can just keep shooting the glass panes out with unlimited Rocket ammo! Man, it is really scary how far technology has come in just 5 years isn't it? When I finished the game I decided to check out the multiplayer of the game and to my surprise people where actually still playing this thing online!! I couldn't get into the game because I didn't have the map that they were playing but I was really shocked to say the least! Since we are going thru the usual " summer drought" of new games now is an excellent time to pick this one up for a cheap price and get a quick FPS fix.

    Pro
    1. The vehicles you get to use feel really cool
    2. Game is very stable
    3. The comments from the enemies are freakn' hilarious
    4. Hendrix does the funniest thing ever in a game... what people would go through just to see me:)
    5. The boss battles were fun
    6. 8-10 hours of FPS fun!!
    7. People are actually still playing the multiplayer

    Cons
    1. The A.I. is pretty much non existent except for the bosses
    2. Even though the comments are funny that the enemies say, it gets old quick!
    3. The 2 main bosses felt like a "copy and paste" of each other

    Delays, Delays, Delays!!!

    Hello fellow gamers,
I can't believe how much is going to miss the big holiday season this year:( I am getting so desperate for some new games that I am thinking about consoles again! Splinter Cell Double Agent is delayed until October and Call of Juarez is delayed until next year. This is a western FPS game that really looks cool and will have my opinion on the demo that was just released asap.
    Other news:

I finally saw a little of a game that Lucas Arts is making that deals with STAR WARS. I am worried because so far they are just saying PS3 which would just devastate this Sith Lord:(

I am really shocked that people are not catching on to MultPrey. There are new servers coming up but I really expected a sh*t load by now. Is MultiPrey to intimidating for people??

    Hardware review: Zboard Fang gamepad

    Hello fellow gamers,
I have mixed opinions when it comes to this gamepad. The reason why I picked up the Fang in the first place was because my wrist started hurting when I was doing a marathon with the game Titan Quest with the Merc keyboard. The Merc keeps your wrist in a certain position the whole time and after 10- 12 hours starts to get to me. I really like the keys on the Merc so it was a no brainer for me to get the fang. The design of the Fang is nice and it lights up but the Fang is way to light and the pad will move out of position when you hit the space key that is on the side of it. I am very happy that I am able to use the Merc and the Fang at the same time and the latest drivers work great! Here is my thoughts...

    1. If you are a casual gamer... Get the Merc!
    2. The Fang is great for RPG's and adventure games but to light for first person shooters!
    3. If your a geek like Lord Natas you will need both for Marathons:)

    AMD + ATI = INTEL + NVIDIA

    Hello fellow gamers,
Well it is signed, sealed, and delivered! I am really curious how this is gonna change the relationship with Intel and ATI's crossfire boards for the new Core 2 processors. In my opinion I can see this merger just making Nvidia's relationship stronger with Intel.

    Retro Review: Hitman 3 Contracts

    Hellow fellow 47's,

I guess you can call this the year of me being Agent 47! I decided to pick this game up and I am really glad that I did. It ran smooth and it has a darker theme compared to the second game Silent Assasin. If you have ever played a Hitman game before you know what to expect playing this game! My favorite mission was the Meat Packing King!

    Pros
    1. Agent 47 is an incredible character
    2. all the missions were fun to do
    3. Jesper Kydd really knows how to make soundtracks!
    4. The ending cutscene was really cool

    Cons
    1. Deja-vu can occur playing Hitman games but in my opinion I love them!!
    2. When am I going to get another mission??? Hitman 5 - Easy Money?????

    Hello fellow gamers,
Well, like I didn't see this one coming:( The game is just going to be delayed a month so it really isn't that big of a deal in my opinion since they are saying that the single player campaign will take you 50-60 hours to do! I wonder if I could crank this one out in a weekend??? any bets???

Id Software will save Quake 4!!!

    Hello fellow gamers,
I have to admit that I just installed this baby back on my hardrive because I really miss playing this game. I really have a love/hate relationship going on with this game but it looks like I am going to get another birthday gift! Read on about Quake 4 1.3 point release.. this is taken from id's website and it is coming from the horses mouth!

We’re implementing a number of community requested features and actual gameplay changes to QUAKE 4 gameplay which will provide a faster, smoother, and more highly competitive experience that we hope particularly appeals to those playing QUAKE 4 regularly and/or competitively, but also makes the game even more fun for new players. You can expect increased mobility and control, improved performance with ambient lighting options, and weapon alterations that advance playability and challenge competitive players.

We’ve noticed several LAN and competitive events considering what games to use for their future events, and we would encourage players and organizers to give 1.3 a try – we think you’ll like it. We feel these competition friendly changes, coupled with an all-new gametype, a new weapon, and several professionally made maps will extend the life of QUAKE 4 for all players. We’re currently in a small, private beta test of the point release and hope to have it out publicly sometime before QuakeCon.

I am really looking forward to this release as well as the new weapon!! You can pick this game up for $20 so let's get fragging:)

    until 1.3 point release...

    Review: Titan Quest

    Hello fellow gamers,
I just got done with the game and if I was going to use just one word to describe this game it would be the word EPIC! What a journey it has been and what a pleasant surprise of quality from IRON LORE. I got so much into this game I forgot to keep track of how many hours I put into it but I would say it was between 30-40 hours of gaming bliss. I have decided to start doing a special podcast of the games I do which I will start with this one! Please keep in mind that the podcast will have spoilers on them so if you don't want to know what is gonna to happen just keep reading the reviews! As I stated on my preview that this is the Diablo killer we have been waiting for!

    Pros
    1. The graphics are just incredible in this game
    2. The soundtrack is just perfect and epic
    3. I really like the skill system in the game
    4. Map worked great and hardly ever got lost and not knowing where to go
    5. When you do die you are close to where you initially died and more importantly you have all your gear and don't have to run to get your equipment back! I hated that in Diablo!
    6. The havok engine was used perfectly.. nothing like seeing the creatures falling over edges and flying in the air
    7. Nothing like going up to Olympus and hearing the mighty Zeus!!!
    8. The enemies never got boring and all were unique
    9. The enviroments are just awesome!! wait until you see the forest in the Orient quests

    Cons
    1. Had the game crash a couple of times on me (this was before the new 1.8 patch)
    2. I know I am good at these games but to have almost 5 million gold coins is that right??
    3. I feel like I have been in a war... wrist and index finger is killing me:)

    until next time..

    LORD NATAS rambling on!

    Hello fellow gamers,
It is the weekend and what are you playing? I myself will be playing MultiPrey and Titan Quest. I just ordered Zboard's new Fang gamepad because my wrist is hurting:( I really love the ZMerc keyboard but I like to position my hand in different angles like I can do with the Nostromo N50! I am using the Nostromo again until my new Fang arrives. Why my wrist is hurting is due to really pounding on Prey and Titan Quest with not much breaking:) I am level 24 on Titan Quest and have over 1 million gold coins which I wish I could cash in for real money.

MultiPrey is on a good start but it is really hard to assess this still. I am seeing more servers come up but there is lag on some of the servers. This game is no way broken it is just such a demanding game that you just can't have lag in the game. To much is going on and you need to be able to concentrate. I was pretty accurate on which map I thought was going to be a favorite and it is definitely Spindle Sphere that is being played the most. I am very impressed on how people are using the grenades and putting them on the door and when you pass through WHAM! your dead:) here is my list of improvements that I hope Human Head works on:

    1. Need to respawn more in a safe zone.. There are times when you actually are respawned right where you have died and the person who kills ya gets another free kill
    2. I would like to have a favorites to mark servers
    3. More 1v1 levels..

Nintendo announces headphone VoIP set for DS

    PC gaming dying?

I was there to hear Mark Rein of Epic (they make games like Unreal Tournament) railing against Intel's dangerous influence over the PC market - and in the most extraordinary manner.

"I'm concerned about the level of growth in the PC games business," he told the audience, pointing particularly to the strategy of rolling out integrated graphics in computers rather than dedicated ones. "A $900 PC is nowhere near as capable as a $299 XBox 360 console: we're losing PC gamers in record numbers."

Rein placed the blame firmly at Intel's door, for an approach to the computer market that tended to go for the lowest common denominator . He suggested that the lack of graphical power was holding back further developments in all kinds of software, not just games, and claimed Microsoft had "capitulated" to Intel by not enforcing 3D power on the desktop. Such a change would cost very little - he suggested between $5 and $8 - but the result is that the gaming industry is now thinking of abandoning PCs completely in favour of consoles.

"The high end is getting higher and the low end is getting lower," he said. "But even if somebody spends $1,000 on a graphics card, we're still only making $25 from them."

The audience response was mixed - certainly many people took issue with what they saw as a high-end games developer spitting out sour grapes when the consumer market didn't really care about graphical capabilities. Rein's answer was clear: "It sickens me that Intel's going to sell a four-core processor next year, with *this* much graphics."

Hire evil minions, pray to the dark god Sithis, and a host of other functions await.

    Available
    July 13th, 2006

    $1.89

    Features:

    * A multilevel lair for murderous players to find refuge

    * The Font of Renewal, where a player may purge himself of Vampirism

    * The Shrine of Sithis where the infamous player may heal and be cured of disease

    * A Dark Minion, who the player may employ to find gold in a most unseemly manner

    * A 'cattle pen' for vampires to dine

    * An indoor garden of venomous plants, including the notorious Chokeberry to feed to your enemy

    * Various furnishing upgrades, including a study room and storage area

One of the most notorious vampires of times long past, Greywyn Blenwyth, had joined the Dark Brotherhood with the intention of one day converting all of his fellow brethren into his kind. He realized that although vampires are accepted within the ranks of the Dark Brotherhood, the notion that it could be a future requirement could anger existing members or possibly dissuade others from joining its ranks. By carefully forging an alliance with several key members of the Dark Brotherhood at the time, Greywyn was confident he could either sway the rest of the members into adopting his ways, or dispatching those that didn't. He spent the better part of a year "turning" opponents to his side, and using his allies to rid the Dark Brotherhood of the others.

He dubbed his splinter faction The Crimson Scars; a name derived from the unusually vicious neck lacerations left by his assassins and their jagged blades. The final turning point in Greywyn's dark plan called for the swift execution of the current upper echelon of the Dark Brotherhood in one massive, cautiously executed strike. Unbeknownst to Greywyn, one of the members he had turned, a Dunmer named Silarian, was not enamored by the thought of his newfound vampiric power, as it came with too high a price. By informing the Black Hand of the Dark Brotherhood of Greywyn's upcoming betrayal, Silarian was able to quell the rebellion before it started. The second purification in the history of the Brotherhood was executed that night, and the entire sanctuary died in a sea of blood.

Greywyn somehow escaped the carnage and retreated to a cave he had discovered earlier in his travels, which he aptly named Deepscorn Hollow. From this lair, Greywyn, now alone, devised a way to bring his plan back to fruition. He sent messages across Cyrodiil, seeking those who would join his cause, but to no avail. Within the Hollow, he constructed a Shrine to Sithis and prayed for absolution and a way to bring his quashed dreams back to reality. Many a mortal died at the hands of Greywyn in the following days, all in an attempt to appease his Dark Master. Finally, his prayers were answered, but Sithis demanded a price. Sithis would approve of the Crimson Scars, only if Greywyn would renounce his vampiric ways and become mortal once again as a punishment for the betrayal of his brothers.

With a heavy heart, Greywyn labored to create a cure for the disease in his veins. Finally, a musty tome recovered from a ruined fort bore the answer: Purgeblood Salts. Greywyn spent months roaming the land gathering the ingredients he needed to complete the salts and to refine them properly. When all his preparations were complete, Greywyn approached the Shrine of Sithis for one last prayer. As he intoned the first verse of his dark prayer, he felt a piercing pain explode across his back. The Dark Brotherhood had finally tracked him down.

LORD NATAS doesn't work for Creative:)

    Hellow fellow gamers,
Here is the article that is showing on Creative website about PREY's audio. As stated in my review in PREY the audio is topnotch with the X-FI!
    Mind-bending Audio in Prey™
Ed Lima discusses the audio development in Prey that sets a new standard for sound in PC gaming.

    Mind-bending Audio in Prey™
Ed Lima discusses the audio development in Prey that sets a new standard for sound in PC gaming.

    Prey™

Interviewee: Ed Lima, Former Audio Director at Human Head, Audio Lead on Prey

    Developer: Human Head
    Publisher: 2K
    Game Title: Prey™

Q1: What was your role on Prey and what other games have you worked on in the past?

I was Audio Lead on "Prey", which means I was responsible for everything you hear in the game, including sound effects, music and voiceover. I also directed the voiceover actors, and contributed some additional writing to the game. My previous titles include "DOOM 3", "007 Nightfire", and Empire Earth.

Q2: Prey has had an interesting development cycle, was there any old content you inherited from the old "Prey" that was being developed by 3D Realms? Or any direction from back then for sound design?

As with most other elements of "Prey", 3D Realms very generously gave Human Head free reign to do what was required. Since the monsters, weapons and settings were all newly created for the game, all of the audio content was similarly built from the ground up. We did use some original Grandfather voiceover in our first E3 2005 trailer for "Prey", but beyond that, every audio asset is brand new.

Q3: What were the challenges in developing a game like Prey, which has such diverse and out of this world environments?

Science fiction settings are always fun and challenging to work in for sound designers, since we basically have carte blanche to produce whatever crazy effects we can think of. "Prey" features a unique combination of science fiction, organic, and natural exterior environments, plus interesting and original enemies and biotech weapons, all of which provide a unique playground for sound.

OpenAL gave us the hardware acceleration we wanted for full 3D sound effects

Q4: Are there any particular effects or levels that you like the most?

I'm quite proud of the voice acting in "Prey". We were very lucky to cast such a wonderfully talented group of actors, all of which really got into "Prey's" unique premise. I think the taunting alien voice in Tommy's head and accompanying sound effects are a high point in that regard. I'm happy with how the alternate sniper fire on the Hunter rifle turned out, too.

Q5: What role does 3D audio play in Prey?

"Prey's" unique 360-degree settings and visceral gunplay happen all around Tommy all the time. 3D audio is essential to helping the player get his or her bearing in the crazy topsy-turvy world of the Sphere. OpenAL goes a long way towards accomplishing this through its tightly pinpointed 3D panning system. Sounds are much more clearly pointsourced in OpenAL than in the game's default sound system. This provides an additional benefit to multiPrey gamers, since they'll have a better bead on where their enemies are.

If players want to live the true

Q6: How was OpenAL and EAX® ADVANCED HD™ used in Prey and how does it add to the experience?

OpenAL and EAX ADVANCED HD had been implemented into Prey about a year and a half ago. This allowed us to really fine-tune and craft the 3D audio experience to suit OpenAL's and EAX's strengths. OpenAL gave us the hardware acceleration we wanted for full 3D sound effects and the EAX allowed us to add in nice Multiple Reverb effects to spice up all the sound environments in the game.

Q7: Have you tried the game on a Sound Blaster® X-Fi™ and if so, how does it sound?

Most of the sound design was created with the X-Fi™, and the entire game was mixed on an X-Fi Fatal1ty card and Gigaworks speaker system. If players want to live the true "Prey" sound experience as it was intended, the Sound Blaster X-Fi is a requirement.

Quake Wars: Enemy Territory slips to 2007

    Hello fellow gamers,
I can't believe how many games are not shipping until next year. This is the first year than I can remember that there will be nothing coming out for FPS. I know that BF 2142 is stated for this year but you never know if even thats gonna make it:(

    at least we have PREY!!!

    until next time...

    Review: PREY

    Hello fellow gamers,
I have been waiting for this game and the wait has been all worth it! Human Head has done a great job resurrecting this game back from the dead and after 10 years it is no longer vaporware. This is the best first person shooter game I have ever played! The reason I am stating this is because the game really played like a movie and you really started to care about the characters and the "alien craft' is just incredible. The Doom 3 engine has never looked better and I would have to say came out better than what Raven did with Quake 4. In the game you only play on the "alien craft" and it is just amazing how large and alive this thing really is! I was very impressed how all the character's movements were fluid especially the "arachnid" creatures and the Keeper! I felt that this game has lived up to its hype and beyond and you should pick this one up! Isn't the reason we play games is to escape reality? I feel being on a spaceship and making them bastards pay is the best way!!.. or do you play the Sims??

    Pros
    1. No longer vaporware!!
    2. Art Bell was awesome in this game and I was always looking forward to hearing the broadcasts from earth
    3. The puzzles were all unique and different, the one puzzle when you are in the cube was just awesome and it really had to take Human Head a long time to get that one perfected as well as the spirit walking ones!
    4. The way that Human Head paid homage to the guys at id software was just kick ass and funny
    5. The graphics are top notch (duh)
    6. If you want the best audio experience hear
    it is!!!
    7. I really enjoyed dying and shooting the wraiths instead of quick loading.. sometimes it would be to your advantage just to die and get more health by shooting them!
    8. Story was just as good as any Sci-fi movie
    9. I thought it was very nice and commendable of Human Head to acknowledge the "creator" of the portal technology who tragically is no longer living
    10. Tommy swears just like me:)
    11. Sphere has a really nice pair of____!!!!!
    12. PREY WILL CONTINUE....

    Cons
    1. I would've liked to see the portals used more than what they were. You will get the pattern down when the hunters are coming through and it would've been nice to see them go back into the portal and shoot from there as well to spice it up some
    2. You will only experience the best audio if you own a soundblaster X-FI card

    until we meet in MultiPrey..

Direct X 10 graphic cards are coming in the 4th quarter

    Hello fellow gamers,
Just wanted to give you an fyi to start saving your money for the latest and greatest from ATI and NVIDIA. The codenames are R600 for ATI and G80 from NVIDIA. Both of these graphic cards will be able to do Shader model 4.0 but more importantly will be Direct X 10 compliant. Nvidia has their GPU already tapped out and should be on shelves sometime in September and ATI will follow sometime in November. The only question I have is who will buy these now with nothing running Direct X 10 until Vista is out??

    until next time...

Preview: TitanQuest-"My index finger hasn't hurt this much since.. well.. DIABLO 2!!!"

    Hello fellow gamers,
I hope that everyone had a very nice Independence day. I myself had a great one I finally got to spend sometime with my wife and got some heavy gaming in as well! I would like to thank my friend JZ for getting this game for me for my birthday and it is an incredible game so far. If I had to pick between Oblivion or TitanQuest this would be a very tough choice. This game is the Diablo killer that we have been looking for all these years since Blizzard brought out the expansion Lord Of Destruction. I have put in roughly 9 hours and I am at the following:

    1. Level 13
    2. 165,000 gold coins
    3. Traveled 4 cities
    4. I have completed roughly 14 quests
    5. I am so strong that Thor would be my Biatch:)

The enemies that you encounter in this game are by far the most unique creatures I have seen in a long time. There was nothing like taking on a Cyclops and winning his hammer that does so much damage it is not even funny. When I swing it at an enemy it is sooo cool how they fly in the air thanks to the havok engine being used. The music in this game is just great and the woman singing has a wonderful voice as well. I am going to try to pound this game out in the next few days and will have a review for ya ASAP! If you are/were an Diablo fan you need to pick this game up you will not be disappointed. This game is so good that it almost makes me forget that I have PREY downloaded on my hardrive waiting for 7/11 @12:01am!!!!!!

    until next time...

    Review: Hitman Blood Money

    Hello fellow 47's,

I was very impressed with this game and it by far has the coolest, greatest, unique ending to a game I have ever seen! I will not give anything away but you know the old saying" it is not over until the fat lady sings" make sure you remember that when you play the mission Requiem! I had a blast playing this game and it really deserves to be on your hardrive gamers. IO interactive has really made improvements on the series and Mr. 47 never looked better. The missions are all unique and I admit while playing the demo that I was worried that it was going to have the "urban theme" but thankfully all the mission are unique and are a blast to play. If you have never played as Agent 47 yet what are you waiting for?? This game is really worth your time and you would not regret spending your money for this one.. enjoy!! If you don't pick up this game I am gonna use my fiberwire on you:)

    Pros

    1. The ending is the best I have ever seen in a game period!
    2. The soundtrack is awesome
    3. Agent 47 moves very well in the game
    4. Locations are just beautiful and exotic
    5. The story was interesting
    6. It was nice to be able to upgrade the weapons by the "blood money" I made
    7. Agent 47 is an incredible killing machine that doesn't have a conscience (here birdie, birdie)
    8. Graphics look great and audio is topnotch
    9. There is so many ways to accomplish missions so replay value is very high in this game
    10. Production of this game and cutscenes was done nicely
    11. I ROFL when a bookstore owner called me Kojak!!!

    Cons
    1. Sometimes the game would crash to my desktop when I was dropping a body somewhere, this wouldn't of been so bad but when you have to redo the mission over because of it sucked a little. The missions rocked so much who really cares!!!
    2. A.I. really needs to be balanced more and was erratic in the game. How is it that I can shoot someone with a silencer in a enclosed room and have guards in a different area get alerted by my actions? Then I could kill someone and slip in their costume and then the guards couldn't figure out that I did the killing??
    3. It ends:(

    until the next hit....
