Microsoft Vista to make Open GL run at 50%
Windows Vista will implement Open GL via Direct 3d. This will seriously degrade its performance by up to 50% under their 3d desktop Aeroglass. So what is being said here is if you want to use your video card drivers you will not be running the Aero 3d Desktop. If you install a hardware vendor's OpenGL ICD, the Aeroglass compositing desktop will be switched off. So, for users that want to run the Aeroglass desktop, that means you're stuck with Microsoft's generic OpenGL 1.4 implementation. So if I want to use my video card drivers I will not have the 3D desktop. If I don't have the 3d Desktop and look at what else Vista offers (not much) for the price of upgrade then hello XP for a while.
I have said this before, are company layoffs and bottom line effecting American innovation. I am starting to believe this with this poor attempt of an operating system. Upgrade????? you mean downgrade.
Lord Natas might be right solitaire might be my only choice.
