Retro Review.. No One Lives Forever 2

Hello fellow Archers,
I really enjoyed playing this game and it has the best production values I have seen in a long time. If you haven't played this game you really need to get it and crank it out! In the beginning of the game you go through a couple of missions and then this title screen starts playing and it is presented to you like you are watching a 60's movie which is a real nice touch to the game. This game had a lot of comedy which is very different to what I usually play but what a refreshing feeling compared to all the death and despair I have played in my gaming life:) The voice acting was "groovy" and the soundtrack had me snagging some bellbottom pants and getting down! The only thing that I felt was negative was the A.I. in the game. It is just amazing how far Monolith have become since this game. In case you live under a rock they were responsible for the game F.E.A.R which showcases the best A.I. I have seen in a game. I really hope that they decide to make a new game with the sexy Cate Archer sometime in the future!


Pros
1. Voice acting, soundtrack, and graphics are top notch (for its time I can see how it won so many awards)
2. Characters are interesting and unique (wait until you see the mimes)
3. This game is full of comedy (wait until you see Anderson pull of the Mime's jacket) ROFL
4. The game is long and never gets boring.
5. The creativity that went into this game is incredible to say the least!

Cons
1. A.I. on some of the enemies is weak but others it is just plain ruthless. I wish it was balanced out better between them.

It is getting very close to start using the crowbar again:)I will be waiting for the game in stores instead of buying off of Steam. I guess you can call me old school because if I had to reinstall it back on my computer I would rather throw a cd in than wait for it to be downloaded again.

Big news in Next Gen HD and Windows Vista

Sony, and apparently a bunch of movie studios and other tech giants, will not be implementing the Image Constraint Token ICT - a protection that will play video that is not run through an HDMI connection at a measly 540p resolution until 2010. That is great we will have full HD from the new HD players and games till that time with our analog component connection. That is a big win for us who have HD TV without HDMI and were first to buy. As I noted earlier there was talk of this implementing this year.
Do not know for sure if this will also be 2010 for the PC side of the new restraints of the DMCA.

New Windows Vista Beta 2 is not doing very well. Some people are taking 4 days to get it to work on brand new machines. Drivers are difficult to load and alot of wifi and audio devices are not being recognized.
Rumors are also hitting the internet that there could be another Delay. Are you surprised???

Hello fellow Archers,
I have to say that this game IS THE BEST game I have played in a very long time. The production of this game is just incredible. I am not finished with the game but I can't believe how cheap you can pick this up for! I have been playing this game AND Ghost Recon Advance Warfighter at the same time:) You know how it goes something serious, and something that is a spoof of the 60's. The A.I. is not the best but I really don't care cause this thing is a blast to play and Cate Archer is one hot momma and walks the best I've seen in a game! Here is a little trivia for the hardcore geeks.. the woman who did the voice over for Cate Archer is the same woman who did Cortana in Halo! I will be very busy this week but hopefully I can knock this game out and have a full review for ya on Friday!

WII was faked it was a gamecube running it??????

THE RECENT demonstration by Nintendo of its new Wii machine at the E3 show was all fabricated, according to the Nintendo insider forum.

Nintendo apparently was in a bit of a bind because it needed to make a good impression at E3, but it did not have a product. The ATI graphics card which will be a feature of the Wii is still in development.

The forum claims that the machine on show was just an empty box with a light on it. A large number of cables were seen coming out of the back which appeared to lead to a Gamecube.

The claim is that the Gamecubes were tinkered with to run a Wii development kit, with the signal routed back through a pretend Wii machine.

Should this prove true, it is amazing that no-one questioned why the Wii had such bad graphics for a second-generation machine. The US press who attended were probably too busy writing the press release up and cheering the presentation.

Looks like Nintendo would have got away with it, if he hadn't been for those pesky kids on the Nintendo Insider Forum.

Prey demo June 22

Hello fellow gamers,
Tommy might not want the job but I do! It will be a single player and multiPREY demo!! I can't wait to play this game! This to me is the most important game coming out this year besides seeing megatextures in Quake Wars. I got some friends that I wonder if they are gonna chicken out on the multiprey or not? Needless to say Lord Natas will be playing on some server all day and all night.

You know when you just got to buy a game because er.. well, its been awhile and you just want to make sure you remember how to do it? Well that is what I did yesterday at a BestBuy. I have waited around 3 years for the H.P.Lovecraft inspired game called "Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth" so I picked it up and went to the register to pay for my new prize. You can imagine my shock when the woman asked to see my drivers license because she wanted to make sure I was old enough to buy the game since it is rated M! Maybe being a hardcore gamer and being a total idiot really does wonderful things for my age:) I will be nailing out this game because it has all of my favorite things that are needed on my checklist... READERS KEEP IN MIND THAT THIS IS IN JUST THE FIRST 5 MINUTES OF THE GAME....
1. Blood ... check
2. scary ambient noises and voices... check
3. no hud to immerse you even more in the game.. check
4. old "grainy film" for cut scenes... check
5. Occult worshippers... check
6. Hanging my self in a insane asylum... check?
7. HAVE TO FIND SAVE POINTS IN GAME (no quicksave feature) f#@!ing check...!

Peter Moore interview

First thing that is important is investing in retail. How games are put on retail shelves is very poor. This means Microsoft is going to work on making their own tables and displays that only Microsoft can afford to do. You will see this change in retail soon that Microsoft will be displaying their products how they want them and paying the cost to do it.

PS3 is taking a risk with their price structure and betting on Blu Ray. He feels strongly HD-DVD will win the battle and 3-5 years for now Microsoft will still be winning the price battle.

He brings up a strong selling point of the red disc HD-DVD. It is close to DVD format son one side of a movie can be DVD and the other can be HD-DVD. I find this a very markatable trait of HD-DVD. Play HD-DVD in home theater then also flip it and put it in your portable and watch it DVD. Also he says the media of HD-DVD is alot cheaper.


Says that taking rumble out of PS3 controller is taking away a very basic important feedback for gameplay.

He feels the Xbox arcade and new poker games will bring more non gamers to the plate.

Nothing on Direct TV but something will probably come soon.

Shadow Run cross platform PC and console is risky but that is part of innovation.

1 year headstart get the supply out to the customers.

Advertising in games will not work unless it is still a great game. Risk of advertisers putting themselves in a bad game that cost alot can back fire in the long run for that advertiser.

Sony fakes blu-ray was a lie!!!!!!!!!!!

At a recent event to celebrate a decade of VAIO innovation, Sony attempted to put on a Blu-Ray movie demonstration. However imagine everyones surprise when somebody opened up a the DVD drive to reveal a plain old DVD+R disc! This has found to be false they were playing blu-ray

20GB PS3 will be upgradeable. The only thing you will not be able to upgrade is the HDMI. That is still a big problem if the next gen HD DVD and Blu Ray will demand it in next gen HD 1080P output. So lets say its is not upgradeable by DMCA standards.

Another thing to mention Sony originally stated that their online including multiplayer game play would be free. After being at E3 conference this is not true. Sony free is the same as Microsoft Silver. No online multiplayer included. That ridiculous price of $599 keeps going up :(

Rumor WII will cost $200. Advice for Nintendo throw in some old nintendo classics to start in the machine and include WII sports. They will be flying off the shelf at that price.

Lord Natas was asking whats going on in physics cards.

Asked around about the sales of PhysX cards and learned that Overclockers, one of the biggest online stores in the UK is selling an average of ten cards a day.

Not a bad rate for a new marchitecture, we reckon, but things could always get better.

Obviously, people do find the interest and the dosh to buy these cards. It is still too early for massive sales as there simply are not enough titles yet available to support the relatively high price.

Of course, the most significant game to support Ageia's PhysX technology is about to be Unreal Tournament 2007. Once this game is out, sales should pick up remarkably.

We like the marchitecture but we need more games. Even then, the company will probably have to lower a rather optimistic price to make the cards even more attractive.

WII should just all get along

Microsoft and Sony are at each others necks already.

The always outspoken Peter Moore has been at it, questioning what direction Sony are taking and the decisions they have made with regards to the Playstation 3. Speaking to CVG in an interview, he spoke about Sony decision to make Blu-Ray standard in both PS3 bundles, Xbox 360 is not forcing hi-def DVD playback on you, and telling you that it is going to cost you an extra $200-$300 dollars. Instead of a hi-def DVD player Microsoft have a standard DVD-ROM will be releasing an external HD DVD drive later this year for an estimated $199.

Moore was also asked whether he thought the PS3 was overpriced, and responded as follows: Go ask consumers. That is where I get my feedback from. I am very comfortable about our price point for what it delivers, the number of games it has, and the quality of those games. Consumers are going to have to see PlayStation 3 games and ask, can I see $300 of difference in those games.I am not sure that’s the case right now. Sony has some challenges in answering that question.

Speaking another time at E3, Moore again attacked the pricing of the PS3, saying that for the price of both the Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii together, you could afford one PS3,Tell me why you would buy a $600 PS3? People are going to buy two (machines.) They are going to buy an Xbox and they are going to buy a Wii for the price of one PS3.

He also, and rather surprisingly, had something positive to say about the Nintendo Wii, “People will always gravitate toward a competitively priced product, like what I believe Wii will be, with innovative new designs and great intellectual property like Mario, Zelda and Metroid.

Would you really expect anything less from the head of Microsoft Xbox 360 division? And it does make for interesting reading.

Sony's Phil Harrison has responded to the now infamous comments made by Microsoft’s Peter Moore, who said the following, "Tell me why you would buy a $600 PS3? People are going to buy two (machines.) They are going to buy an Xbox and they are going to buy a Wii for the price of one PS3.

Harrison, speaking in an interview with Gamepro, hit back at Microsoft with the following:

I think Peter Moore is exactly right. I think Nintendo will be the second system consumers purchase after PlayStation 3.

I have not had a chance to check out the Wii myself, but Nintendo has a great history of innovation and has always done great things for gaming and long may they do so. But as it relates to our strategy they are very much in a different market.

I know what Peter was getting at with his price point issue but he’s not comparing apples to oranges. He is not even comparing the same kind of food products at all. It is clearly a case that PlayStation 3 price is justified by PlayStation 3 value. That’s what consumers base their purchasing decisions on — value.

What we have in addition to a great game system is a Blue Ray player, a network platform, a new controller, and HDD in every system combined in an unbelievably compelling package. And frankly I am amazed that we can do it so cheaply.

Harrison responses probably don’t have as much sting as Moore’s, but then again he might prefer to let the console, and consumers, do the talking.

LORD NATAS ON E3.. WTF??

Hello Fellow gamers,
I can't help but feel that this is by far the worse E3 I have seen! Now before you go and start the hate mail let me give you my points for you to ponder on. First off, the only console that is coming out in the next couple of years is the Nintendo Wii. The reason I say this is because it will be under 250 bucks and will be a blast to play with the controllers! Little Tommy's around the world will be able to get a gaming machine and a couple of games from mowing lawns this summer. Hey! when people are waiting for 4 hours to play your console you really got something going doncha? Look at the PS3 presentation.. the GT HD was running on a computer folks NOT the PS3!! In my opinion the XBOX 360 and the PS3 is nothing more than a poor man's computer(if you think spending up to 600bucks and being outdated before you open the box is being poor let me know I'll be your friend!!). A console used to stand for a CLOSED SYSTEM, look at some of the pictures that DeathofU has on our website.. now you can get different hard drives, mod cooling kits, so whats gonna be next?? can't you see where this is going folks?? hasn't the PC world been doing this shit for years?? just upgrade your PC so these publishers will start making the games for PC instead of fugly ports that never use the full power of a PC!
Hats off to NINTENDO for keeping the faith. now for the main reason...

I might be a dumb ass but isn't this 2006 or have I lost a year and it's 2007? Everything that they were showing is looking like it won't come out until next year? I would be pissed if I spent the money on these "consoles" and nothing is really coming out for them until next year!

The Net Throne
When I saw the name, rude thoughts entered my brain. This unfortunately named chair is actually pretty comfortable, and was one of several such items on display from various manufacturers.










CH Products and a Cool Table
CH Products was there, showing their line of flight controllers. This three-monitor setup was on a really cool gaming table from MSY. Sporting easy slide-out sections for game controllers, it could be a nifty table for any PC user. Alas, the Roccaport2 table is currently only available in Japan.









IZ3D 3D LCD Display
Despite the companys hype, this is not the first 3D LCD display. As with most such displays, you need to wear a pair of polarized glasses.Time to get my stereo glasses back out.












Seagate for Gamers
Seagate makes the drive that goes into the Xbox360. But no one will say when larger capacity drives will become available. Yes, that’s an 8GB compact flash type III microdrive in the lower left. Seagate announced that 12GB microdrives would become available soon.











The Coolit Ice Hawk
The Ice Hawk is a specialized liquid cooling system just for graphics cards.














Sandio Technology 3D Mouse
.This interesting mouse allows you to move and shoot with one hand, freeing up the keyboard hand for managing other keys. This is a full six-degrees-of-freedom controller, so will likely have a bit of a learning curve.
